Frequently Asked Questions
1. Go to the Google Cloud Console (https://console.cloud.google.com/)
2. Create a new project or select an existing one
3. Enable the Google Sheets API for your project
4. Go to 'Credentials' and create a new API key

The spreadsheet ID is found in the URL of your Google Sheet. For example, in this URL:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BxiMVs0XRA5nFMdKvBdBZjgmUUqptlbs74OgvE2upms/edit
The spreadsheet ID is: 1BxiMVs0XRA5nFMdKvBdBZjgmUUqptlbs74OgvE2upms
Go to Preferences → Cell Configuration tab. Here you can:
• Add new cells by clicking the '+' button
• Enter cell references like 'A1', 'Sheet1!B2', or templates like 'A1 (B2) / C3'
• Set custom labels and formatting options
• Reorder items by dragging
• Add divider lines between sections
Templates let you create formatted displays using multiple cell values. For example:
• Template: 'Revenue: A1 (Growth: B1)'
• If A1=1000 and B1=5%, displays: 'Revenue: 1000 (Growth: 5%)'
• You can use any text with cell references like A1, Sheet1!B2, etc.
Check these common issues:
• Ensure your Google Sheets document is publicly viewable or shared properly
• Verify your API key is valid and has Google Sheets API access
• Check that your spreadsheet ID is correct
• Make sure the cell references exist in your sheet
• Try refreshing manually from the popup
You can set the refresh interval in Preferences → Settings tab. Options range from every minute to every hour. The app checks for data changes in the background and shows a colored notification dot on the menubar icon when data changes.
The app can show values in different colors:
• Green: Positive numbers (when color coding is enabled)
• Red: Negative numbers (when color coding is enabled)
• Default: Regular text color
You can enable/disable color coding for each cell in the Cell Configuration tab.
The colored dot appears when your data changes. You can:
• Enable/disable it in Preferences → Settings tab
• Choose from 6 different colors (red, purple, blue, green, yellow, gold)
• The dot disappears when you open the popup to view the data
Yes! The app supports connecting to multiple Google Sheets documents. You can add, manage, and view data from different spreadsheets all from the same interface.
Yes! Your API key is stored securely in the macOS Keychain, not in plain text files. The app uses the same secure storage that other macOS apps use for sensitive information like passwords.
• 'Last Checked': When the app last fetched data from Google Sheets
• 'Last Changed': When the data actually changed
This helps you understand if the data is updating frequently or if the app is just checking cached data from Google's servers.
Yes, this can also help with some icons not showing due to limited menu bar space. You can do this by holding down the Command (⌘) key on your keyboard.
While holding Command, click and drag your app's icon from its current position to a new spot, preferably closer to the right side of the menu bar (e.g., to the left of the Control Center icon).
Release the mouse button, and then release the Command key.
